Canis Detectum

Canine detection for Heritage Preservation

This research examines the use of biological sensors (specially trained detection dogs) for the non-destructive early detection of pest- and fungus-related damage to cultural heritage.

The approach establishes a methodological framework for preventive conservation in cultural heritage.

Within Integrated Pest Management (IPM), detection dogs are capable of identifying olfactory signatures associated with pest activity, oviposition and fungal growth as part of preventive monitoring - before any visible damage occurs.

This  enables the identification of pest- and fungus-related activity at a significantly earlier stage, allowing for timely and targeted intervention.
